Fluoride Treatments

What are Fluoride Treatments?

Fluoride treatments are designed to protect your teeth and prevent instances of tooth decay. While tooth decay is often associated with poor oral hygiene and bad eating habits, some patients are simply more susceptible to it developing. For this reason, we can apply a liquid fluoride varnish to the teeth in order to protect them. Fluoride treatments are especially beneficial to children, but they can be just as advantageous to our adult patients as well.

Why would Fluoride Treatments be needed?

Fluoride treatments are ideal for both pediatric and adult patients. They might be needed if you’re more prone to developing cavities or if you already have a number of dental fillings. Some of our patients are simply looking for a better way to keep their teeth protected. Fluoride is safe and highly effective for patients of all ages.

Who is a candidate for Fluoride Treatments?

We can examine your teeth to determine if these special fluoride treatments are right for you. In fact, because of how safe these treatments are, they can be applied to your teeth throughout the year at your checkup visits. For our pediatric patients, we’ll often recommend fluoride be applied to their teeth as a way to keep them strong, healthy and protected from decay. Fluoride treatments take just seconds in our office, but provide long-term protection to your smile.

What happens during the Fluoride Treatment process?

We will begin by applying a clear varnish of fluoride to your teeth. This takes a few seconds and works to effectively cover every single tooth. You should avoid drinking, eating or rinsing out your mouth for roughly 30 minutes following your appointment. This gives the fluoride enough chance to fully absorb into the teeth and protect them. You can have the same treatment done at each of your future visits or on an as-needed basis. Fluoride is safe and effective, and we always monitor your dental health to ensure it’s the right option for you.
