Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

For patients who are missing many or all of their teeth, it can be difficult to eat, chew and even speak. You might be looking for a way to enhance your smile and replace the teeth that you’re currently missing. One way to accomplish this is by utilizing either a full or partial denture. The denture is designed to replace the teeth you’re missing while lasting for several years.

Why would Dentures & Partials be necessary?

When you are missing a great deal or all of your teeth, it can be difficult to talk, eat and chew. Your face may even take on a sunken-in appearance because of the missing dentition. This can have a serious impact on not only your self-esteem, but your quality of life. For patients with severely advanced periodontal disease, it might be suggested to remove your remaining teeth and place a denture.

Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?

To determine if a denture or partial is right for you, we’ll perform a full dental examination. Full dentures are ideal for patients who need to have the rest of their teeth extracted, often due to gum disease. Partials are best for patients who still have a lot of their own healthy teeth in place. Partials will clip onto surrounding teeth in order to stay in place.

What happens during the procedure to make and place Dentures & Partials?

The denture procedure will start with impressions. These highly-detailed molds of your mouth, teeth and gums allow us to fabricate a new prosthetic appliance just for you. We help in choosing the color and shape of the teeth so that the appliance looks as natural as possible. You will then come back in after a few weeks to have the denture fitted. We can make minor adjustments to this appliance in the office to ensure that it fits comfortably. With the proper care of the denture and storing it away from pets and children, your denture or partial can last for up to seven years without showing any signs of wear.
