Dental Emergencies

What are Dental Emergencies?

A dental emergency can occur at virtually any time and for a variety of reasons. Even with regular dental care, you can still experience a problem from time to time. We offer emergency care in our office for both new and existing patients. Our goal is to have you leave the office in a quick, efficient manner and with no pain or discomfort.

Why is treatment of Dental Emergencies necessary?

If you fail to treat a dental emergency, the problem can eventually get worse. Over time, a minor issue could result in the need for more invasive treatments. Likewise, an infection or abscess can form as a result of the emergency situation, causing significant pain, tooth loss and underlying bone loss. This is why we recommend that you come in for treatment as soon as you notice there’s a problem.

What are some common Dental Emergencies?

We see many different types of emergencies in our office each day. Some of these emergencies could be considered minor, while others are more extensive and require more invasive treatment. Some of these problems include:

  • Pain and severe toothache
  • Bleeding or swollen gums
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Broken, cracked or fallen restorations
  • Orthodontic emergencies
  • Post-operative complications
  • Infections and abscesses

What happens during Dental Emergency treatment?

The emergency appointment will begin by asking you about the problem and what you’re currently experiencing. We will then work with you to take x-rays and perform an exam to find the root cause of the pain or discomfort that you have. We provide you with immediate treatment, if available, so that you can leave the office with no pain. If you have an active infection, we normally prescribe antibiotics before any type of treatment is started. The emergency appointment is done quickly in our office and in a way that is beneficial to patients of all ages. We can work with children and adults alike who need help with an emergency.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency and need immediate care, call us today to schedule an appointment to come in.
