What is a Tooth Extraction?

Extractions help to remove problematic teeth that would otherwise compromise your oral health. These teeth might have become severely decayed, broken or are impacted and need to be removed. While we do everything in our power to preserve your natural teeth, there may come a time when one or more teeth is beyond the point of being saved. When this happens, we work to comfortably extract the tooth in our office at your convenience.

Why would a Tooth Extraction be needed?

A tooth might need to be extracted because it’s become seriously decayed or is loose due to gum disease. A tooth might have cracked or fractured well below the gum line, causing the need for it to be removed. If you have an impacted, painful or problematic wisdom tooth, we may suggest that it be removed. For our pediatric patients, their baby teeth may need to be extracted if they aren’t falling out on their own.

Who is a candidate for a Tooth Extraction?

We can examine your smile to determine if and when you might need to have an extraction performed. Once extracted, we can help to provide you with options, if available, to replace the tooth. Extractions can be done on both pediatric as well as adult patients. We will help to provide you with sedative options to make the extraction process easier and more comfortable.

What happens during the Tooth Extraction process?

We will begin by numbing the area where the extraction is needed. We then loosen the tooth and lift it out of the mouth using special dental tools. The gums are sutured to help them heal correctly. You will bite down on gauze to stop any bleeding before leaving the office. We will provide you with careful instructions on how to care for the surgical site while it is healing. We are here to help with any post-operative complications that you might experience after the extraction has been done.
