Dental Bridges

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are common restorations that are designed to replace missing teeth. If you’re completely missing a tooth, you might feel self-conscious over your appearance. Over time, the surrounding teeth may even begin to shift and look misaligned and crowded. In order to restore your smile, we will make a customized dental bridge to fit over the surrounding teeth and replace what is missing.

Why would Dental Bridges be needed?

Dental bridges are ideal for patients who wouldn’t be candidates for dental implants or who don’t want to have surgery. The bridge procedure offers both restorative and cosmetic benefits to our patients. Not only will your smile look fuller and more beautiful, but it will be easier for you to eat and chew with the tooth replaced. Your new bridge can easily last for decades before replacement is necessary.

Who is a candidate for Dental Bridges?

The bridge procedure is incredibly easy and is often done in two visits to our office. The first visit involves preparing the teeth to receive the bridge and the second visit involves placing the actual bridge. We will examine your teeth to determine if a bridge is necessary and if it can be replaced. The more teeth that need to be replaced using one single bridge, the less stable the bridge will be. In this case, we may recommend having dental implants placed to stabilize the bridge.

What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?

We first numb the area with a local anesthetic. This helps to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you. The next step is to file down the two surrounding teeth so that there is adequate room for the bridge itself. Impressions are taken and used to fabricate a brand new, customized bridge. The bridge will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile, so most people won’t even know that it’s in place. Your second visit into the office involves placing the permanent bridge. We make minor adjustments to the way that it fits, and you’ll be ready to leave the office smiling with confidence.
